Roger's story
ROGER is a sweet terrier mix a little over a 1.6yr old (guesstimate birthday of 8/18/2017) ... he is a super sweet doll baby... he was owner surrendered to a high kill shelter since they moved (we guess doggies cannot move, maybe his doggie biscuits took up too much space?)...
What makes him so great: He is VERY affectionate. If he had it his way, he would be getting snuggles and pats all the time. He asks for extra pets with a paw if you get distracted. He is very eager to please making training easier. He is also very treat motivated. He is crate trained, has never soiled it, and goes into it happily at bedtime. He knows how to sit for treats and we are working on shake. He is also house broken. He is good with every dog he's met, big and small. He is gentle with all humans of both genders and children. He is also pretty athletic and might enjoy doing agility with you should you choose. He rides well in cars and would be happy to run errands with you. He doesnt steal things like shoes or stuffed animals. He is highly adaptable and becomes comfortable in new environments quickly. He is catching on to come quite quickly but we have yet to test this out around something especially distracting like squirrels or other dogs. He has a nice medium energy level where he will go for short runs and play but then will settle down quickly to nap with you on the couch after. He is not leash aggressive and you can take bully sticks right out of his mouth without so much as a growl. He doesnt show food aggression either as you can take his food without protest as well. What he could work on: He begs at the table while you eat but this has improved drastically in the last couple of weeks since Ive had him. He could use some leash work although he has already made great strides in the last two weeks. He already pulls less and will move on from stopping to sniff with the command walk on. We are also working on not jumping to greet or ask for affection. Once again, he has already made improvements on this. Being in the kennels made him pack on pounds so he is still trimming down to his ideal weight. His ideal home: Roger would love a home where someone is around most of the time. He just loves being a companion so a home where he is left alone for more than 6 hours at a time would not make him as happy. He really likes children too although he would be fine in a house without them as well. A yard would also be ideal but is not a deal breaker. If there is a yard, a 6 foot fence is recommended as he has a 4 foot vertical at least. He may prefer to be the only dog as he loves the extra attention although he gets along so well with other dogs, so this too is not a deal breaker. Other: He is getting neutered and microchipped on January 4 . He is up to date on all of his shots including his influenza for this season. No health problems noted on his last physical.
