It takes a little time to win Mercer over, but once he trusts you, he's an affectionate companion. Mercer was born in 2016 and was found as a stray; no one knows if he's ever had a home of his own. Because he is shy and fearful with strangers and has some anxiety, he is considered a flight risk and will need to go home with someone who can keep him safe and secure. Although Mercer is shy with people, when he bonds with a dog he's willing to go with them almost anywhere, because they boost his confidence. He's done well with all the dogs he's met at the Sanctuary. Because Mercer is an active boy who would be a great adventure buddy, he'll need an active home. He seems to get stressed out when he is confined. At Dogtown, he's working on building relationships with his caregivers and will soon start doing some basic training and some fun doggie sports like agility and nose work, which will help him gain confidence.
