Lena's story

　　Lena: 8 month old, black, rust and white spayed female mix, natural ears and tail. 17" tall and about 15 pounds. Shots up to date, rescued from shelter.

　　Do you have a young lab with lots of energy or perhaps a Jack Russell or Whippet with more go than you have? Lena would be a perfect playmate for any dog large enough to play rough. She is a mix that has all the MinPin traits plus a few others that lead me to believe she has JRT or perhaps some kind of sight hound in her parentage. This girl is busy, busy, busy and needs lots of exercise to keep her focused and biddable. She has seven pack mates (regular MinPin sized) that she wears out every day.

　　Lena is young and apparently had few rules, boundaries or limitations in her former home. She was out of control during her first week. Lena actually threw a tantrum the first time she was corrected for bad behavior. I'm usually a softie during a dog's first week with me but chewing on the corner of the coffee table is just not allowed. She was shocked and decided I was an evil person for about 10 minutes. Lena has come a long way in then last couple of months. She is affectionate and loving, seeking me out regularly for some belly scratches and love. She is a bit mouthy but now understands what no biting means. She learned that the squirt bottle means she needs to stop whatever it is she is doing. Lena still needs work on walking properly on a leash. Remember that sight hound parentage? She is fine as long as nothing on wheels comes by. Bikes, skateboards and cars are for chasing in her mind. Its imperative that she never be allowed out of a fenced area without a leash. She is house trained using a dog door but I think she started on potty pads as she will go on anything that resembles one on the floor.

　　Lena is a good girl that needs a home that will teach her what she needs to know to be a good doggie citizen. She will do best in a home with another dog that has lots of energy and needs a playmate. I think she will be a good jogging trail partner once she settles down a bit. Frisbees are fascinating to Lena. So far I haven't been able to get her to bring one back yet but I can imagine her becoming a Frisbee catching fanatic. She is too energetic for small children but will do well with kids over 10 or 12. Lena loves cow hooves and bones which is good as she is still in the chewing phase. She is still a puppy and needs love along with consistent rules. This girl is very smart and wants to learn. Are you up for it?
