Joey's story

　　Joey is a big handsome boy who as with all of our cats, was once someone's pet until they either moved or decided they just didn't want them anymore! UGHHH!!

　　He was living on the streets in a bad neighborhood, un-neutered of course and looking pretty shabby and matted.

　　We took him in and got him all cleaned up and vetted (neutered, vaccinated for FVRCP and FIV, flea and worm treated and tested for feline leukemia and FIV.

　　He was negative for feline leukemia but is positive for feline FIV, which is NOT A DEATH SENTENCE. Cats with feline FIV can live as long as cats that don't have it, as long as they are well taken care of by keeping inside and fed a good diet.

　　They are not contagious to people or dogs and they are only contagious to other cats if they bite them.

　　Since Joey can be a little feisty, we do recommend him as being the only cat and have an experienced owner who knows cats and their guirky side and when they might not be feeling well. The trick to keeping a FIV cat around for a long time, is to get them to the vet if need be since they do have a somewhat weaken immune system. But regardless, any good pet owner should take their pets to the vet when need be, FIV positive or not.
