It's time to sell my Hobie Cat 16, since I have no place to store it. This is a fun, fast boat. One of my favorite memories was sailing it out of Marina del Rey and encountering a pod of dolphins, who played tag with us as we zipped through the water. You can sail this boat single-handedly, or have up to 3 people on it, but it works best with a crew of 2.
For $1000 you get the sailboat, the main sail, jib sail, all lines, the trailer (with storage compartments), 2 life jackets, a paddle, various clips, trapeze wire rigging, mast bob, and more. We took it out a few months ago on Lake Castaic and sailed it around for a last voyage, and made sure everything was seaworthy. Both sails have no rips, and have been stored indoors or out of the sun. The rudders, cleats, and traveller on the boat work smoothly and have no problems.
If you do end up buying the boat, I'd be happy to give you a basic lesson, too. It's a very easy boat to sail, even single-handed.
I have more pictures showing the boat extensively; if you want to see them email me and I'll send them over. If you have questions or would like to see it, I'm generally free weekends and nights. You can call me at
(Jason).
