Bernie's story

　　Bernie is a sweet, loving old man cat. Hes at least 10 years old, but could be a good bit older. He sleeps on the pillow in bed with his foster mom every night and loves playing with toys dangling from strings. He also LOVES catnip. He has the sweetest purr and will let you scratch the top of his head endlessly. Bernie is good with other animals as long as they dont pester him. He would prefer a relatively quiet and non-chaotic home. Hes slightly arthritic so he needs steps or intermediate jumping points to get as high as a standard bed and hes blind in one eye, but he doesnt let those things slow him down. He was originally brought to the Athens shelter after being abandoned by his previous family when they moved. He was malnourished and had developed a nasty upper respiratory infection. FOR stepped in to rescue him and discovered the infection was worse than they originally realized. He had completely stopped eating and drinking on his own and became severely dehydrated. Further complicating things, he has a grade V heart murmur, so treatment options had to be chosen carefully. Fortunately, the wonderful veterinarians that FOR uses stepped in and patched him up. Hes now healthy and ready for his FORever home!
