St Dunstan’s College champions the teaching of individual sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) from Year 7 onwards, with individual Heads of Department for each subject working as autonomous and accountable middle leaders.

However, we recognise that the nature of the subjects offers significant opportunities for enhanced collaboration between departments. The Head of Science is a new role, recognising the significant place science has in our curriculum, the high number of students studying A Level science options, and the ambition of our Futures provision, including for aspiring Medics, Dentists, Vets and Engineers.

The championing of STEM as an integral part of our educational offering is of paramount importance to this role, including effective liaison with the Heads of Design Engineering, Psychology, and Mathematics, and with our external partners.

The Head of Science will also oversee academic outcomes in the department with oversight and accountability for A Level, and GCSE Triple and Double Award entries. They will ensure excellent outcomes for students by their effective line management of the relevant Heads of Department.

The Head of Science will ensure the ambitious and forward-thinking approach pioneered by science subjects at St Dunstan’s has a consistently high profile throughout the school and beyond.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
