ROLE PURPOSE
To support the Construction Ecology Lead, Ecology Specialists and Ecology Deputies with:
Delivery of ecological mitigation requirements to programme and to the Technical Requirements and to policy and legal requirements.
On-site ecological walk-overs, desk-based searches and surveys.
Inspections, watching briefs and other on-site support for construction works.
Problem-solving and proactively find practical, cost-effective solutions to ecological challenges facing the construction teams and sub-contractors.
Compiling reports and other documentation as required for technical review and to revise documents for completion.
Keeping internal trackers on Ecology deliverables and maintaining files and folders on Share-point and other data sharing systems.
Adhering to processes and document control requirements, keeping the required documentation and supporting audits as required.
Developing and implementing ecological method statements and associated documents for construction.
Actively engendering a culture of continual improvement of on-site ecological practice that is solution-orientated to support construction teams.
Investigating and reporting ecological incidents.
Proactively proposing ecological enhancement opportunities.
Working with the Arboricultural Lead on arboricultural mitigation for construction and the links with ecological mitigation for construction
PERSONAL QUALITIES AND EXPERIENCE
The following qualities/experience are essential:
Excellent knowledge and experience of ecological management and mitigation for major infrastructure projects
Educated to degree or Masters level in Ecological related subject
Excellent understanding of ecological legalisation for development and HS2
Full UK driver's licence and flexibility to travel
Protected species licence holder desirable to be a mitigation licence holder
Good understanding of environmental management for construction sites
Excellent understanding of the utilities/construction/engineering operating environment
Literate in MS Office - Word, Excel, Outlook & GIS
Good interpersonal skills
Excellent communication skills
CIEEM Membership or equivalent
Excellent experience of ECOW working on large scale infrastructure construction/highways projects
Experienced with communicating with Natural England on projects species licences
Skills in working collaboratively to obtain the best outcome for the project
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Determination to see tasks through to completion, with excellent planning and organisation skills
