My story
Thank you so much for looking into Wags and Whiskers' The Cat House for the newest addition to your family.
Latte was part of a colony of working cats. She was happy and healthy, fed and cared for by the property owner/colony caretaker. On the morning of December 1st, during the teenage daughter’s morning feeding round, she heard a faint crying from inside the chicken house. Upon investigating, she found a sad, motionless, kitty, with very obvious signs of having survived being burnt alive. Upon discovering her, they made a Facebook post, pleading for help for this poor animal that they knew must have been in extreme pain.
Later that evening, a couple of rescue volunteers reached out, hoping someone had already stepped up to help and that she wasn’t still outside in the cold, suffering. Unfortunately, no one else had stepped up, and so, Wags and Whiskers Pet Rescue came in and got Latte to safety. First thing the very next morning, Latte was in with the vet, receiving antibiotics, fluids and topical creams to help ease her pain and discomfort.
Latte has been through more than any animal should ever be through, and now she is fighting for her life. Her burns are extensive and will take many weeks to heal; her nose was burnt nearly off, her ears burnt and curled over, her paw pads raw and infected. Due to the severity of her burns, especially on her feet, she cannot use the real litter and has to use paper bedding (like CareFresh small animal bedding) to avoid more unnecessary infection and pain. Latte is in foster care now where she can get proper one on one attention and get her wounds cleaned and treated properly and regularly. She has no less than 1 visit a week with her veterinarian to ensure that she is on the right track; though she seems to be on the right track currently, it is still a very long, hard road to recovery and Latte needs all the help and well wishes she can get.
At Wags and Whiskers' The Cat House, we do not discriminate against any animal based on their age, current health, or pre-existing medical condition(s). We are a dedicated team of volunteers, with a strong passion for animals and a very special bond with the injured, abused and abandoned. Due to the fact that we work so closely with qualified veterinarians, we are able, and willing, to take on the most complex medical cases to help give them the chance, that ever animal deserves, at a full, happy and healthy life. Our primary goal is giving hope to the hopeless; your adoption helps make a difference.
All of our cats are up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, FIV/FeLV tested, and will be spayed or neutered before being allowed to go home.
Unfortunately, we don't always know the background of each cat. Some were dumped, abandoned in an empty house, left in a box on the side of a road, picked up by animal control as strays, or simply unwanted by their owners.
