2014 Maserati Gran Turismo MC Convertible

Maserati is the legendary Italian car maker with impeccable racing

DNA and some early association with Ferrari. They also produced

some renowned automobiles for the public including the 3500 GT, the

Ghibli, the Quattroporte and since 2007, the Gran Turismo. The

Maserati Gran Turismo is fast and according to some sources it set

a record for the fastest development of a car, going from design to

production in nine months. The model was produced through 2019 with

various submodels and features but almost always with grand touring

  as the primary objective.

For consignment, a 2014 Gran Turismo MC convertible, wearing the

classic Trident badge on its gaping grille and sporting some custom

cosmetic touches that set this one apart. The car has 71,256 title

verified miles. Its engine is the pleasurable confluence of a

Maserati and Ferrari derived piece of machinery and as you can

imagine, its exhaust note is as sweet as a glass of Castello di

  Volpaia Chianti Classico Riserva.

  Exterior

A Bianco Eldorado, pearl white, exterior with its black canvas top

and black wheels makes for a striking presence. But that's just the

start of the aesthetic goodness this car provides. Yellow accents

abound on the car including the Trident emblem, a centerline hood

stripe that continues on the trunk, the side vent mesh inserts, the

brake calipers, and all name plates. As we'll learn later, lemon

yellow is also mirrored on the interior of the car. The wide set

headlights and large oval grille that front a long hood are unique

to this Maserati, nothing else quite looks like it and whereas the

side profile could be considered unremarkable by exotic car

standards, the rear profile certainly is not. You're not flying

under the radar with that wide rear, dual twin tip exhaust, and

Maserati emblazoned across the trunk lid, truly a special look made

even more so by the smoked tail lights. The side vents, which

descend towards the front, create the illusion of a raked front

end, aggressive and bold. The spokes of the 20-inch black wheels

hint at the Trident design. The front windshield is steeply raked,

and this is especially apparent with the top down, this is

approaching a hypercar level slant and is very dramatic. The paint

is in good shape except for some noted blemishes including chips in

the rear trim of the convertible top, significant paint chipping on

one wheel arch, some scuffs on lower pieces, and various other

chips, cracks, and imperfections. The front chin piece where it

meets the undercarriage engine cover has sustained some damage. The

canvas top is faded and spotty and could benefit from some

  restoration.

  Interior

A beige interior has some added pop with the use of yellow paint

first noted on the door panel where it is repeated on the door

sill. The leather on the door handle shows some wear and

discoloration but is not torn. The tall and sporty leather front

bucket seats are very well made and contain numerous operational

buttons on the shell. The leather also shows some wear on the

driver's side and could use a good cleaning. Yellow seat belts

quickly grab your attention and the rear buckets are very cool, a

bit narrower than the front but with armrests and speakers on each

side. The trident is embossed in the headrests of all seats. The

burl wood grain steering wheel encases finger rests and is backed

by paddle shifters. Yellow paint has been applied to the trident

and button surrounds on the wheel. The gauge cluster is simple,

clear, and easy to read. A big screen is found in the center stack

along with the stock AM/FM/CD radio and A/C controls. A trim piece

that runs along the horizontal width of the dash is now yellow, as

is the clock surround. The automatic shifter is in the center

console and is where you can opt for Race Shift mode and use the

paddles. The leather covered armrest shows a bit of wear but not

tears. Aftermarket, diamond stitched floor mats cover the entire

carpet and include sidewalls, (in yellow, of course), to protect

the footwell sides. The trunk is lined in gray fleece material and

  is in good condition.

  Drivetrain

A 4.7 liter, (up from 4.2 in previous years), V8 is under the hood

tied, fed by Bosch electronic fuel injection and tied to a 6-speed

automatic transmission. As mentioned, the power plant is

Maserati/Ferrari derived and is rated at 454 horsepower. Power is

sent to the rear wheels via 3.73 gears and stopping is achieved via

power disc brakes at each corner. The consignor notes that the

vehicle will need new brakes and new tires. Visually, the engine

bay is clean and uniform, covered mostly with plastic panels that

allow the lovely curvaceous intake and red valve covers to shine

  through.

  Undercarriage

Nice and relatively clean underneath, the undercarriage is

protected by a full belly pan that likely helps with aerodynamics

as well. But this is a low car and evidence of some contact is

there with some superficial scrapes to the metal pans. The dual

exhaust leaves the engine, enters separate catalytic converters,

then each pipe splits just before entering a small muffler in back,

where it is expelled through two exhaust tips on each side of the

rear valance. Independent double wishbone suspension is found front

  and rear.

  Drive-Ability

This is it, the magic moment. A turn of the yellow key and we stop

talking because we want to hear the music that only a

Maserati/Ferrari derived engine can produce. We'll have to settle

for some low speed sounds however and use our imagination for the

songs of wide open throttle on ramp blasts. We also were conscious

of the need for brakes and tires, so babied this bambino around the

loop. Good acceleration, awesome ergonomics, comfortable seats, and

a burbling exhaust that gets the blood going.

Like a bella luna, this pearl white Maserati shines in a sea of

stars. This one has some mileage and some love and could very well

be considered for daily or regular driving. Or pop the top and

enjoy weekends at the beach. O sole mio!!
